In September 2018, we launched the Foundation Scholars Programme. These are 16 of Pimlico’s most talented young musicians, who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to pursue music at such a high level.
Each week, the Foundation Scholars perform Evensong alongside eight professional singers at St Gabriel’s Church in Pimlico. In addition to this high quality musical training, the children receive free tuition in a chosen orchestral instrument (or piano) and music theory.
The Foundation Scholars also perform in concerts and services that rival this country’s best choral foundations. Most recently, the Scholars sang at St John’s Smith Square performing Britten’s St Nicolas with the London Choral Sinfonia. In the summer of 2019, they performed in Hansel and Gretel for English National Opera at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre which has recently been nominated for an Olivier Award 2020 for Best New Opera Production.
Over the recent weeks, the Foundation Scholars have sung with the Choir of Magdalen College, Oxford, and will be performing Durufle’s Requiem at The Barbican Centre alongside pupils from Westminster School.
If your child is currently a member of the Pimlico Children’s Choir, they may be asked to audition for the Foundation Scholars Programme. In order to initially join the Pimlico Children’s Choir, or if you have any queries, please fill in the form on the Children’s Choir page.
