In-school programmes

Our work in schools

Our expert PMF staff provide bespoke music teaching sessions in partner schools in the Pimlico area.

We currently work with St Vincent de Paul Catholic Primary, St Gabriel’s Primary, Burdett Coutts Primary, Pimlico Primary and Churchill Gardens Primary to enhance the overall musical offering provided in these schools.

At the heart of our approach to teaching is the belief that musicianship should be taught in parallel with practical singing skills. As such, PMF sessions can take a variety of formats, including:

  • KS1 and KS2 Singing assemblies

  • Choir sessions

  • Whole class singing sessions

We find that these teaching formats are particularly helpful in cultivating students’ enthusiasm and musical awareness, and allow PMF teachers to collaborate with schools to enhance the existing curriculum. They are not intended to replace the National Curriculum, or substitute for teaching already taking place in schools.

This programme is delivered entirely free of charge.

Out of school activities

As part of our in-school offering, we also provide students with access to additional, out of school, PMF programmes. These include:

PMF Concerts
These bring together our PMF partner schools, our Pimlico Children’s Choir, our Foundation Choir and our Adult Chorus. Performance opportunities of this kind offer a clear goal for our in-school work, and the in-school sessions prepare students for these performances. In rehearsals for the concerts, students focus on key skills including presentation, communication and teamwork, which helps create pride in what they are doing. These intergenerational concerts draw together children and adults from across Pimlico, and from many different backgrounds.

Progression routes offered locally
All partner schools, students and parents/guardians also have access to all other PMF programmes. PMF has a wide range of partners including the Tri-borough Hub, Inner Voices, Westminster School, Magdalen College, Oxford and the Rodolfus Foundation. We are keen to nurture participants by providing the best opportunities possible both within and outside of PMF.
