Pimlico Chorus

The Pimlico Chorus is a non-auditioned choir open to anyone from Pimlico and the surrounding areas. We learn a variety of fun and challenging choral music, culminating in termly concerts alongside the professional Teacher-Singers and other PMF choirs.

The Pimlico Chorus learns a diverse repertoire that spans many centuries and styles. From classical masterpieces to contemporary works, the choir's performances showcase their versatility and commitment to musical excellence.

Anyone is welcome to join the Pimlico Chorus. Many of our members have some prior musical experience and we generally sing from sheet music.

Many of our members arrive completely new to this style of music and pick up relevant skills during the rehearsals. The most important thing is enthusiasm!

James, our Artistic Director, introduces the Pimlico Chorus.

  • Structure: Weekly two-hour choir rehearsals during term time with a tea break half-way through, and concert at the end of term

What they sing: A variety of fun and challenging choral music, largely from the classical repertoire.

What do they learn: Vocal technique, musicianship, read and understand notation.

Concerts: Each term the Chorus joins forces with our other choirs to perform in large concerts at St Gabriel’s, Pimlico.

  • We’re excited to let you know that next for the Autumn term, Pimlico Chorus will join local children in a special performance of Cecilia McDowall’s Everyday Wonders: The Girl from Aleppo – and we’d love for you to be part of it.

Everyday Wonders: The Girl from Aleppo tells the extraordinary real-life story of Nujeen Mustafa, a Kurdish teenager with cerebral palsy forced by war to flee her home and embark on an arduous journey to Europe with her sister.

Commissioned by the National Children's Choir of Great Britain, it uses Nujeen's own words as text and features musical elements like chorales, spoken sections, body percussion, and a solo violin, creating a narrative of hardship, fear, and eventual hope and resilience. The work captures Nujeen's story from her childhood in Syria to her perilous Mediterranean crossing and her final arrival in Germany, celebrating the "everyday wonders" of a new life.

  • Any adult resident of Pimlico or surrounding areas.

  • This programme is non-auditioned and open to all abilities. Some prior experience reading sheet music is important, but many of our members arrive completely new to this style of music and pick up relevant skills during the rehearsals.

  • Rehearsals take place on

    Day: Wednesdays

    Time: 7:30pm- 9:30pm

    Venue: St Gabriel's Church, Pimlico

  • This year we have introduced a subscription charge of £40 per term to cover the cost associated with running the Chorus (with concessions and free subscriptions available to all who need it).
